Importance of the celebration of Christian holidays in a secularized society

The study deals with the meaning of celebrating Christian holidays in a secularized society. The theoretical part characterizes the celebrating of feasts in human life in general. Further, it describes the liturgical year, with paying closer attention to two main Christian feasts: Christmas and Easter. First, the liturgical celebrations are described, and then the study focuses on celebrating these feasts from the point of view of folk traditions. The other half of theoretical part focuses on the secularization, its historic causes and changes in the form of celebrating holidays in today's secularized society. The practical part describes the qualitative research carried out in the form of interviews. The purpose was to investigate what the meaning of celebrating Christian holidays is there for people who are not practicing Christians. This survey has contributed to the better understanding of the meaning and manner of celebrating Christian feasts in secular families in today's society.

Czech, Russian and British Vocabulary Regarding Holidays and Traditions in Comparison

The aim of this thesis is to compare and contrast the most signifiant Christian Festivals celebrated in the Czech Republic, the Russian Federation and in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The theoretical part of the thesis analyses the customs, traditions and practices involved in the celebrations of Easter and Christmas in the three areas concerned. The thesis explains the importance of the religious content involved and compares and contrasts the similarities and differences in the ways the festivals are celebrated in the three areas. Special emphasis is given to the vocabulary used and how this vocabulary can be used to support the teaching of the English and Russian language.

Observance of Traditions and Customs in Bohemia and in Moravia

The dissertation Observance of traditions and customs in Bohemia and in Moravia focuses on issues of Czech and Moravian traditions, customs and holidays, namely on two important holidays Easter and Christmas. These two holidays are the most significant events of ecclesiastical year but they are favourite as well among inhabitants of the Czech Republic, in particular Christmas. Various customs and traditions are handed down from generation to generation and they occupy a significant position in people's lives. In the introduction the terms that are important for this work are explained as well as the significance of traditions and customs for culture, current situation of culture is mentioned as well. This work presents description of the two mentioned holidays in the context of Czech culture. In the second part of this work you can find comparison of selected elements with regard to particular Czech and Moravian customs. Apart from presenting of presented Easter and Christmas customs and their comparison, the work aims to define tendencies which occured and name these tendencies. In the conclusion, the findings about differences between Czech and Moravian customs are summarized and defined, the prognosis about future development of observing customs is mentioned as well. Comparative Analysis of Interpretations of the St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach

The main topic of the diploma thesis is comparison of selected interpretations of St. John's Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. The part about life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach is followed by short analysis of libretto, choice of instruments and historic performances of St. John's Passion. The Final chapter deals with selected recordings of Bach's St. John's Passion - Karel Richter (1970), Nakolaus Harnoncourt (1985), Masaaki Suzuki (2000) and Raphaël Pichon (2013). Identity of present-day Lusatian Sorbs illustrated by the example of the traditional Easter rides.

This work takes interest in the present-day indigenous minority of Sorbs and their life in a mainly German-speaking environment. All of the field research was done in 2014 and 2016 during the important festival and celebration The Easter ride of Crusaders in the Catholic part of Upper Lusatia, which is a sign of the community and religious communal strength. The Sorbs are the rural population, which has never demanded it's rights in a violent way. On the contrary, their traditional weapons throughout history were their conservative mentality, passiveness and isolation. The Sorbs have a double identity, they are bilingual and they can change the language they are speaking in an instant. The church was historically the only place where Sorbian was strictly the only language used. In fact, outside of the family German was the dominant language at all other institutions. The main differences that the Sorbs noticed between themselves and their German neighbors was a different language, being Catholic instead of Protestant, maintaining their own traditions, which the Sorbs believe can be a source of fear in the majority of the unknown. Paschal Mystery Celebration in Roman and Byzantine Christian Tradition. Comparison Attempt. Abstract Dissertation deals with comparison outline of the Easter Mystery celebration in two liturgical traditions: in christian byzantine and christian west tradition. Thesis is based on the jewish First Pascha celebration and its celebration in the historical Jesus period and in His death and resurrection as the central event of the mankind salvation and christian life. The influence of the Old Testament Easter celebration is tracked in Easter celebration within early christian period followed by the form of the celebration in the 4th century and celebration in Middle Ages. Finally for the roman tradition the 20th century reform in its 2 steps was studied. For byzantine tradition the reformist reflecions and attempts over the last centuries. The core of the thesis is a comparison of actual celebration in both studied traditions and pinpointing of some basic elements and symbols which holds the strong theological meaning.
